On June 19, 2018, eBiobank's new academic salon was held at the new site of Shanghai Avantech Biotechnology Co., Ltd.

Chairman of Zhejiang Health Industry Federation, Chairman of Dean Diagnostics Mr. Chen Haibin, Professor Jiang Yan, Vice President of Dian Diagnostics, and nearly 20 experts and professors from major hospitals in Shanghai, had attended the salon. Everyone is concerned about the hot topics of Biobankers. Sharing and application of biological samples, conduction detailed and in-depth discussions, and thinking together "the value of the biological sample library from the construction to the application, the value of the enterprise and the innovative service model", which is another development of the biological sample industry and the future development of the enterprise.

Xuexun Zhou, the founder of Avantech Bio, first introduced the model and operational characteristics of biological samples in Europe and the United States, and then talked about the PI biobanks, project biobanks, regional biobank, provincial and national biobank with Chinese characteristics, which led to the inventory of China's samples. A common problem is that the overall sample delivery rate is not high, and the use of the sample can realize the true value of the sample. Therefore, the sharing and application of the sample is a common requirement of everyone. Nowadays, IVD, pharmaceutical and personalized medical services need to use samples for research and transformation.

Then, Qingling Wu, general manager of Wange Bio, introduced the status quo of domestic sample sharing. The sample demand side can cooperate to build a sample library, invest in equipment, technology, etc., participate in research projects to obtain samples, or exchange information. But for many emerging research companies, they also need samples for R&D. How to meet the sample needs of this group is worth exploring.

Director Hongmei Zhou of Shanghai Oriental Hospital proposed that an enterprise-oriented operation mode should be considered to build a sample sharing platform, and the sample storage information and sample demand information will be disclosed to bridge the gap between supply and demand. The hospital's biological sample library should treat information disclosure with an open mind.

Regarding the application direction of the sample, Director Ka  Li of Zhongshan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University pointed out that many sample banks are now considering how to reduce, not increase. So how do you reduce the amount and use the sample? Director Li proposed three ways: First, the scientific research use of cooperation between hospitals, that is, the sharing of samples between hospitals; Second, the scientific research use of non-clinical institutions, such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Third, commercial uses, such as pharmaceutical companies. Among these three paths, due to the lack of communication and information asymmetry between hospitals and research institutes and pharmaceutical companies, enterprises can consider setting up bridges for information exchange and provide services, technology, and design support to form such as “ The platform model of scientific research institutes + hospitals + downstream testing services realizes the symmetry of information of all parties and makes a difference on the second and third roads.

Dr. Chen Xingdong from Fudan University shared his experiences in practical work. The difficulty in the development of the biological sample library is that the sample collection needs to perform many procedures such as administrative licensing, reporting, review, etc., as well as the collection, collation and mining of data after sample collection; in the development direction and opportunities of the biological sample library, Dr. Chen It is proposed that the operating model of Europe and the United States can be considered, and the sharing of sample applications should be promoted on the basis of relevant ethical norms and administrative supervision, so that the samples can truly exert their value to promote clinical and scientific research.

Participants began a lively discussion on topics such as ethical understanding of biological samples, informed consent, and sample sharing between the top three hospitals and the dimethyl hospital.

Professor Jiang Yan, Vice President of Diagnostics Diagnostics, affirmed the planning strategy of the sample library and raised some thought-provoking questions:
1. What is the future development of China's biological sample bank and how to drive the industry to go further?
2. How to meet the needs of the secondary hospital's database construction or use sample requirements?
3. The value of the sample lies in the information behind it. Do the donors have ownership of their own specimens, and the data generated by the sample testing needs to be returned to the public?
I believe that by answering these questions well, the sample library industry is sure to take another big step forward!

Finally, Wang Feng, Director of Wangge Bio-IT, introduced the software development of the sample library from the aspects of electronic platform, queue research, sample integrated management platform function and future planning.
